Product Description

Released in 1984 and the second release on Creation Records. Flowers In The Sky Is a perfect piece of '80s psychedelic pop. The band was formed in 1983 by Andrew Innes, who had previously played guitar for Alan McGee's band The Laughing Apple, and also contributed to McGee's later band, Biff Bang Pow! The band also featured Innes's girlfriend Christine Wanless on vocals, Ken Popple (also of Biff Bang Pow!) on drums, and part-time contributions on guitar from Alan McGee. Color vinyl; Includes postcard and poster.

Very moody but compelling acid-drenched material from Scotland cicra 1984-88. The songwriting wins out over the occasionally cliched guitar licks. Alternately sing-songy and droney, RPD paved the way for the later wave of Brit groups like the Pale Saints, Oasis, and anything else you might imagine on McGee's Creation label. Always interesting and arresting, this disc features all of their early singles (as well as alternate takes) and their full-length LP. Again, the music swerves from beautifully blissed psych-folk to drainage-ditch-heroin-frenzy-discharge e.g. The Telescopes. I have always questioned the mythology surrounding the group. You know, the typical "he did too much acid and burned out" schtick to the rumors surrounding a "mysterious fire that burned down the studio" they had recorded these efforts in. Whatever. Great music, convincingly remastered, and, in full agreement with the reviewer above, ageless.
