Fully Patterned Wool Shawl This shawl has been crafted of blended wool, of around 40 to 50 micron diameter. For strength and luster this piece blends a bit of acrylic thread with the result that in effulgence, gorgeousness and look it acquires rare distinction. Such rare distinction that it inherits from the material used in it apart, it discovers its beauty in its very concept – colour scheme and dimensions of design-motifs, more especially in the brilliantly woven design-patterns that embellish the entire field, the ends of the length and borders on both sides being differently patterned. The background colour and the colours of the design motifs have been amicably matched which affords to the whole piece tremendous unity and such elegance as is rarely seen in a cloth-piece. Though not very regular, a repeat of octagonal medallions adorns the edges of the length – the borders, and the end-parts – pallus. These medallions contain alternately two differently composed design-patterns that keep alternating though their colour scheme is the same for both motifs, or rather for all designing patterns used either for embellishing the field or the edges. The colours used in laying these patterns have a look of Victorian Europe, the piece is rare in ethnicity and indigenous flavor. One of the patterns in medallion is a conventionalized flower while the other consists of some kind of graphic formation usually a paisley-like form flower-like rising over a pair of leaves that a tiny branch supports. All three combined – the pair of leaves and paisley flower, create a trefoil like effect – a well known pattern used in decorative art. The patterns with which the field has been embellished consist of vines-like curving shoots of flowering plants carrying on each branch a bunch of leaves and flowers. All forms are largely conventionalized though quite communicative and straight. They all are broadly laid but each neat and precise primary emphasis being on their fascinating and eye-pleasing aspect. In its simplicity and look the ensemble is divine, and in its feel it has a fawn’s tenderness. I've been searching extensively of late for a scarf / stole / shawl / wrap in just the right shade of pink or ivory. Not too plain, or too thin, or too shiny, or a pattern that looks like it belongs on a curtain rod instead of my shoulders; top quality pashmina or 3-ply cashmere, for less than $30. Yes, I know, cashmere for $30 - there's no such thing. I might as well have searched for a live unicorn. Although, according to some vendors, there ARE goats climbing the Himalayas now that grow Viscose, Acrylic, and Rayon fur. (It's on the internet so it has to be true, right?)So, after hours & hours of shopping and some purchases & returns, I stumbled upon this shawl. Perfect colors, beautiful pattern, handmade from real wool. But on the other side of the world, out of my price range, and no reviews for it or similar listings to vouch for its quality. After briefly weighing the pros and cons, very briefly because the shawl is so pretty I just plain WANTED it, I threw caution to the wind and placed the order. Generally shipments from Asia take about 2-6 weeks. Even standard shipment within the US can take 2 weeks. This one took TWO BUSINESS DAYS, four calendar days. I placed the order Thursday the 11th, it was in my hands 9 o'clock Monday morning, the 15th.They packaged it carefully, too. Inside the Fedex envelope was a sturdy cardboard box, completely covered with waterproof tape. Inside the box the beautifully gold-foil wrapped item was nestled in styrofoam. Inside the well-taped gold foil was a heavy plastic bag, also taped. Inside the bag was my shawl!Maybe the excitement and anticipation created undue expectations, or maybe I just don't know enough about wool shawls. This is my first one. My first impression was the smell. Like mothballs and gasoline, though fairly faint. The material felt as though is had a coating of some kind. Presumably it's treated to keep it pristine during storage and shipment. The color is dark beige in the photo, but more like light cocoa brown under florescent light. I spread it out on a twin size bed to examine it in sunlight. It is precisely the same size as the mattress, top to bottom and side to side. I anticipated a hand-made item might be flawed. There is a tiny flaw along one edge (one thread a bit thicker than the others) and a slightly larger flaw towards the center on the obverse side. It appears that a thread got hung up, tangled and knotted. I snipped off the bulk of the knots and it's barely noticeable. The shawl is advertised as reversible, but the reverse side LOOKS like the reverse side, though it is still pretty. In sunlight the color is still more light brown than beige. The texture of the weave is much smoother than I expected, especially on the reverse side. The material is supple and drapes beautifully. The label came off easily and left no residue.Even without opening the windows, the smell dissipated quickly, as did my disappointment that the body of the shawl isn't quite beige. The other colors are beautiful, the weight is just right, the pattern and overall craftsmanship are lovely, the sheer size alone makes it well worth $40, and $6 for shipping that distance that quickly is a bargain. All in all, I'm glad I splurged on this wrap and I'm pleased as can be with it!I really liked the color and material. very happy with the purchase.good design. good quality fabric. It is very large and is so beautiful. I receive many compliments on it.I bought a few others from another company but they ran out before I could order additional ones. This seemed similar even if a bit overpriced so I ordered it. It is nothing alike, this is one still nice but I bought the other ones for half the price and it had hand embroidered borders all around.Warm and a elegant shawl. I love it. I have a good collection of shawls out of them I really like this one due to its pattern, warmth, and color. Goes with any outfit. Most importantly its warm too and easy to handle. Doesn't give you a feeling of carrying something very thick.I ordered this shawl by Exotic India and another of the same dimensions by Weavers Villa. The two shawls are almost identical. Same thickness. I even weighed them. Both around 400 grams. They feel the same way. This one cost $40 and the one by Weavers Villa $20. Then I did the test to see if they are made of wool. The test revealed that they are both made of synthetic fibers. So, I am returning both. But if I had to keep one, then I would stick with the one by Weavers Villa. I am giving it two stars because vendor is lying about the material used. There is no tag or anything. Beautiful shawls but shady business!Beautiful shawl. Good quality for the price and arrived in a timely manner and we'll packagedBeautiful shawl made of very soft fabric. It is not wool and will not keep you warm if the weather is very cold. I live in Bangalore and found it perfect for the winters here as the temperature never goes below 12C.Faded colors are lighter than I'd like. I would have liked more vivid colors and a little warmer material. It will be better for late spring rather than early fall.I really really love this shawl but it has a strange odor that I cant seem to wash out. After 2 washes it still smells like mothballs. I'm giving it 5 stars because it is really awesome and I've learned to live with the odor. I am hoping more washes helps.Bought this during the great Indian festival for my grandmother. Got it in a very less price & she just loved it.Bought another one in a different colour after this buy for my mother. It was too good.Average product. Quality is not up to mark as per price. Colour is good.
